Colwell Creek to Kingston Creek - 14nm

Woke to a dull morning with a slight drizzle as we prepared to leave around 10:00am for a short run to Kingston Creek at the start of Belleisle Bay (a 4* location in Taft and also highly recommended by a number of locals). Follwing the restored Hinkley yacht out, we had a slow cruise into the main river and headed downstream with the surrounding countryside becoming higher as we approached the turn-off for the Bay. Our anchorage was just inside the Creek against a high bluff to the west with a slightly lower hillside to the east

Kingston Creek to Saint John - 24nm

A bad night for one of us with (me) laying awake until almost 2:00am with continuous hull slap before I moved to the salon where I managed to get a few hours sleep before the sky lightened to reveal a cloudy morning. Pulled anchor and were on our way by 9:30 for a very pleasant run downriver to the Saint John Yacht Club where we were warmly greeted by Sarah who decided to move us away from the concrete wall to a floating dock just around the corner with Ellie Belle at the end of the gas dock. The concrete dock turned out to be a huge concrete barge probably 60' by 250' that had been in the Saint John Harbor for years before being towed through the Reversing Falls and sunk in the shallow water to replace some old decaying docks. Good rates here; $35CAN for us (with water but no power) with showers and free washer/dryer at the associated restaurant. We would recommend this over the RKYC.

After a relaxing afternoon in the sun that appeared as we arrived, we enjoyed a great meal at the restaurant with George and Cynthy; relativley inexpensive and busy for a Tuesday night. Plans for an early departure were made (almost confused by a local who had some wacky tide tables that were way off what we had but we were certain that 6:02am was the correct time to leave). An early night with alarms set for 5:00am and hopes of no overnight fog.

Saint John to Grand Manan Island - 50 nm

On the dock at 5:20 am with the sky just getting light enough to see to cast off the lines and head to the Reversing Falls which were a no-never-mind again with just a couple of areas of light current. Visibility was limited due to quite dense fog when we passed by the city and reached open water and it was to remain like this for our entire journey down the Bay of Fundy until we arrived at North Head on Grand Manan. We encountered very little boat traffic and missed one boat we would have really liked to see ... Mondango 3, a 185' aluminum ketch, that passed us on our port beam by only half a mile.

S/V Mondango Under Full Sail

It was built in 2014 as a luxury charter yacht and rents for $250,000 a week (plus expenses) so say $320,000! It was under sail and power so would have been quite a sight to see up close. We tied alongside a lobster boat on a floating dock; the tide here is 18' so we do not have to worry about using our long dock lines and floating up the tall docks at the side of the area.
