Home to Prescott, ON - 623 Miles

We were up early and left home at 8:00 am on a sunny day for the drive to Prescott, Ontario, in the Thousand Islands area of the St. Lawrence Seaway. Traffic was good until we neared Toronto; even Customs was good with only two cars ahead of us. We assumed, wrongly, that the traffic around Toronto would be reasonable on a Saturday and we were in stop-and-go traffic for a couple of hours before we finally arrived at the east side when we returned to a normal speed. After 600 plus miles, we made Prescott in time for a slightly late check-in to the Colonel's Inn, a very good and reasonably priced B&B we had stayed at last year. The Inn was originally built in 1835 by Colonel Alexander McDonnell and his wife, Isabella and remained in the family until the early 1900s. The Colonel was the second in command of Fort Wellington. We were lucky enough to "Isabella's Room," a spacious room with its own sunroom to enjoy for a couple of hours before the sun went down. The Inn is decorated with a number of period furniture pieces and our room had some of Isabella's gowns, shoes and hats on display (if not hers, at least the period was right!)

The tourist trade was slow in getting started in Prescott and we were the only diners at O'Heaphy's Pub; the food was as good as last year.

Prescott, ON to Quebec City, QC - 275 Miles

Geoff, the owner of the Inn, cooked us a great breakfast and we enjoyed an hour or so of good conversation with another couple who were staying at the Inn since we were in no rush to leave as we only had a short (for us) drive that day. We had a leisurely drive passing many of the places we had stopped at on the boat last year before crossing the river near Montreal and approached Quebec City from the south which dropped us off the highway almost on the doorstep of the Quebec Yacht Club.

As we were so close, and hungry, we decided to enoy their menu and, as we were walking in met Andre, the QYC Manager, who was so good to us last year during our three week stay at the Club. Unfortunately, we could not see JoAnne, his assistant, but they had both followed our blog after we left QC.

After a good late lunch, we drove around the City seeing some of the sights from last year and feeling quite confident in threading our way through the old part of the City.

On our way yesterday, we had contacted Jacques and Silvie (the owners of a B&B and a 26' Nordic Tug) to see if we could stay at their B&B and managed to get one of their rooms for the night so we checked in with them and caught up with their news since we last saw them in the Fall. They were making final plans for a summer-long trip in the 26 to Georgian Bay and back.
