Camden to Castine - 19nm

A warm but quiet night at our floating dock with an early departure (for us) at 8:00am for a short run to Castine on East Penobscot Bay. Space at the Yacht Club mooring field is limited and goes on a "first come basis" so we were eager to get there early. The run was very smooth with just a light wind and calm water, particularly when we crossed into the East Bay. Our run was uneventful but Carried Rose dumped much of their freshly filled water tank into the bilge when a hose came off the water heater. No big deal as it soon pumped out and they were back up to speed.

As we found a couple of weeks ago when we went to Castine, the lobster trap floats were not very dense but enough to hinder running on the autopilot without making fairly frequent course changes. It is amazing to us that with floats every three or four hundred yards, they always seem to be right on our course line. We are now attuned to maintaining a continual watch since they will always pop up the moment you glance away.

The weather forecast was not looking good when we left with rain predicted by 2:00pm; wrong as it turned out with the rain just starting when we arrived at the Castine Yacht Club. We were in luck with the two larger capacity moorings available for us ($35 a night) and were securely moored without getting wet. Within 45 minutes of our arrival a number of other boats arrived so our early departure was a good decision. Amongst the numerous arriving boats, two were Nordic Tugs, a 42 - "Water Witch" from Massachusets and a 37 - "Osprey" from New York that we had not seen before on our travels. We chatted briefly with them in the rain and hoped to get together with them but the inclement weather put the stop to that.

The rest of the day was spent looking at the gloomy grey scene around us and cooking up some good comfort food - Shepherd's Pie and a chicken stew to freeze. By 6:30 pm, the tide had changed and the current was ripping through the mooring field at a couple of knots but we were secure as we put our lights on inside; the nights are really drawing in now. The next tide change and the associated slapping will be around midnight so we will get a reasonable sleep tonight.

The good news for the day was that Steve Bannon has left the building!

No sunset tonight.

Castine to Warren Island - 13nm

A great night's sleep; we were completely unaware of any current noise if any occurred.
